Council of Management:N V Krishna
Chairman,
Mr. N V Krishna has an abiding interest in the
application of science and technology to the real world problems of
energy, employment and other developmental needs of society, an interest
he developed while working at the Karnataka State Council for Science and
Technology (KSCST).
NVK graduated from IIT Madras (1974) and IIM Calcutta (1976) and worked
with Prof A K N Reddy as a system’s analyst at the recently formed KSCST
during 1976 / 81.He was associated with several projects during this
period including the development of a Science and Technology plan for
Karnataka, improvements to hand pumps for drinking water and automation of
state department operations.
His
later work experience has been in industrial units, mainly related to
software and networking businesses. He worked for IDL chemicals Ltd.
during 1981 /86 and headed the systems department at Hyderabad. He then
joined Sonata software in its formative years, where he was working during
1986 / 94, as Vice President (US operations) and head of Software Quality.
He joined Microsense as a Director in 1995 and currently heads the
Company’s software export operations and is also part of the Wireless
City project undertaken by the Company to create ubiquitous connected
communities.
Sharadchandra Lele
Sharadchandra Lele has
a broad interest in resource and environmental issues, which began while
he was doing his B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering in IIT Bombay. He moved
to the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, where he completed an M.S.
in Systems Science in 1987, working on the optimal sizing of hydropower
projects incorporating the energy and economic costs of land submergence.
He went on to the University of California, Berkeley, where he completed a
Ph.D in Energy & Resources in 1993 on the definition, measurement and
causal analysis of sustainability in forest use in a part of the Western
Ghats forests. He then spent a year at the Pacific Institute for Studies
in Development, Environment, and Security, Oakland, as a Senior Research
Associate and a year at Harvard University as a Bullard Fellow for Forest
Research, before returning to Bangalore to work in collaboration with the
Institute for Social & Economic Change, and eventually to being
involved in the founding of CISED.
Madan Rao
Madan Rao is
a faculty member at Raman Research Institute. He holds an Adjunct Faculty
position at the National Centre for Biological Sciences and also a
Visiting Scientist in the Center for Condensed Matter Theory at the Indian
Institute of Science. Having trained as a theoretical condensed matter
physicist he is now working at the frontiers of physics and biology. In
addition to furthering the cause of interdisciplinary research and
collaboration Madan Rao is keenly interested in the popularisation of
scientific research as well as in exploring the linkages between the
agendas of science and larger developmental issues. He has been associated
with various social movements dedicated to these concerns.

an alumni of IIT Bombay, IISc Bangalore was the recipient of the Bhatnagar
Award in 2004
Shailaja.R.
A
Ph.D from the M S University of Baroda, works with the Centre for
Environment Education (CEE), a National Centre of Excellence, supported by
the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. As the
Regional Director of the southern regional office, she coordinates
programmes in the field of Environment Education and Education for
Sustainable Development in the Southern States. After her Ph.D in plant
biochemistry, she spent
a year
in Central Plantation Crops Research Institute and year in Karnatak
University, Dharwad working on physiological aspects of plants using in
vitro techniques. However, her interest shifted from laboratory
studies to development related field studies when she joined the Indian
Institute of Science, Bangalore. There she had the good fortune of meeting
scholars and great teachers like Prof. Amulya Kumar N. Reddy and
Prof.K.S.Jagadish, who supported and encouraged her interests. While
working with the rural community, especially women, she realized the
importance of education to achieve the goals of sustainable development.
She then moved to CEE to pursue her interests.
She now is working towards integrating the principles and the
processes of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in
development interventions. Her special interest lies in the area of
disaster management
Svati Bhogle
Secretary,
Svati Bhogle holds a masters degree in chemical engineering from IIT
Bombay. She worked for the Hindustan Lever Research Centre for about a
year after which her interest shifted to research in technology for
development an area that she has been working in for over two decades.
When working for the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology,
she was initially involved in research in the development of fuel
efficient biomass based stoves and dryers for a variety of applications.
She has been associated with TIDE for about 10 years now as its Secretary
and Chief Executive and has worked on several projects involving
technology development, adaptation and dissemination. She has also
contributed to several projects that have explored entrepreneurship models
for sustainable technology dissemination. In the past few years, she has
been associated with projects involving women and livelihoods. She was
also the
Executive
Editor of Energy for Sustainable Development the journal of the
International Energy Initiative till March 2007.. She was nominated for
the Social entrepreneur of the Year Award 2006 jointly with the Founder
Chairman Dr. S Rajagopalan.

N. Sampath Kumar
Consultant
He is a Civil Engineer with post graduation in Rural Management from
Institute of Rural Management, Anand. He has undertaken several projects
in rural and renewable energy and Solid Waste Management. His expertise
includes preparation of village energy plans, biomass assessment studies,
projects for power generation from pico hydro power projects and for
carbon financing projects in the area of solid waste. He is the Managing
Director of TIDE Technocrats.
Mr. Ashwini Kumar B. J
Project Manager - Energy Efficiency in Tea Processing
He holds a Post Graduate Diploma from the Institute of Rural
Management, Anand. His major areas of interests are the marketing of
agricultural inputs and outputs, and market research. He is currently
undertaking research on system elements and their dynamics that contribute
to successful rural entrepreneurship. He has submitted his Ph.D thesis in
the Management Studies department of the Indian Institute of Science
Dr. G G Chandankeri
Head Water Technologies Group
He has a doctorate in Geology from Karnatak University Dharwad. His
main areas of work are Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing , Ground water
exploration and design of rain water harvesting and ground water
recharging structures. He heads the water technologies team in TIDE and
is currently involved in developing innovative solutions for water
management in rural, peri urban and urban areas.
Mr. Murtuza Khetty
Chief Operating Officer
He is a MBA from ENPC Paris. His areas of interest are Entrepreneurship
and Enterprise Management with focus on financing strategies. He
co-ordinates the training activities at TIDE in addition to managing the
accounts and admin related functions at TIDE
Ms. Brinda Ayer
Consultant
She has a masters degree in Environmental Planning from School of
Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. She has worked for projects with Aga
Khan Foundation, Equations, She is associated with water
conservation projects in TIDE. Her area of interest is utilization of gray
water. She has initiated the school and community horticulture project for
TIDE
Ms. R Prabha
Head, Women & Livelihoods Group
She is a post graduate in Botany and has worked with Life Insurance
Corporation. She was a Co-ordinator with the Centre for Budget and Policy
Studies. She currently heads the gender and livelihoods team and manages
projects relating to development of rural enterprises for self help groups
of women.
Mr. Deekshith
Project Manager
He is a mechanical engineer from Adichunchungiri Institute of
Engineering, Chikmagalur and is the team leader of the renewable energy
technologies team. He has been working on biomass energy
combustion projects of TIDE. He has developed several innovative designs
for biomass combustion products. His area of interest includes Computer
Aided Design .

Project Manager
He is an electrical engineer from BDT Engineering College, Davangere, and
is a member of the renewable energy technology team of TIDE. He
co-ordinates the field activities of TIDE
Mr. Naiman Vaseem
Project Manager
He is a mechanical Engineer from Adichunchungiri Institute of
Engineering, Chikmagalur and is a part of the renewable energy technology
team of TIDE. He would like to specialize in computer aided design for
biomass energy products.
Mr. Abhishek H V
Project Manager
He is a mechanical KVGCE Sullia, Karnataka and is a member of the
renewable energy technology team at TIDE. His area of interest is design
of biomass energy systems
Mr. Jayaprakash V
Project Associate
Mr. Jayaprakash co-ordinates the field activities of TIDE in Kerala. He
is a member of the women and livelihoods team. He also does technical and
enterprise training for TIDE and assists women's groups in finding markets
for their produce

He has a masters degree in Geography from Bangalore University. He
co-ordinates all the field activities of TIDE. He has specialized in
developing awareness programs and training programs for self help groups
of women.

She is a graduate in Environmental Engineering from Visveswaraih
Technical University. She has been associated with water and wastewater
projects in TIDE.

creation, market development and promotional activities for acceptance of

FOUNDER CHAIRMAN / MENTOR
Dr. S. Rajagopalan
He is a Chemical Engineer with post graduation in Management from
Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and a Doctorate from IIT Kanpur.
He has been the Chief Executive Officer of Karnataka State Council for
Science and Technology, Bangalore for about 13 years. He has been involved
in the management of Science & Technology research, demonstration and
dissemination projects. He has coordinated projects in several areas such
as rural and renewable energy, housing, rural industry, environment, urban
planning and habitat, education, water & agriculture and life
sciences. He has also been actively involved in policy formulation of the
government in S&T and related areas. He has good experience in
projects involving multi-organizational interaction and has studied the
process of diffusion of technologies closely. He is one of the pioneers in
the use of computer based Geographic Information Systems for the
management of Natural resources. He is the Managing Director of Spatial
Data Pvt. Ltd.
Prof. S S Lokras
He is a retired professor of Chemical Engineering from IISc. Bangalore.
He holds a doctorate in Chemical Engineering from II Sc, He is a
'Distinguished Fellow' of ASTRA, IISc. His major contribution has been in
the development, field-testing and dissemination of fuel efficient, wood
and other biomass burning devices and technologies for rural areas.
Prof. K S Jagadish
He is a retired professor in civil engineering from IISc Bangalore. He
was former Chairman, ASTRA (Centre for Sustainable Technologies) and a
pioneer in low cost and environment friendly housing. He is currently
associated with Gramavidya, an NGO and RV College of Engineering. He
provides valuable technical inputs to TIDE.
Mr. S Vishwanath
He is a pioneer in the introduction of several innovative rain water
harvesting techniques. He is the founder of Rainwater Club. He is a civil
Engineer from Mysore University with a post graduate diploma in urban and
regional planning and diploma in urban environmental management.
Dr. Sreekumar
Dr. Sreekumar is a visiting faculty in Chemical Engineering at National
Institute of Technology, Suratkal. His research interests include energy
technologies.
