TIDE is an organization devoted to promoting sustainable development through technological interventions. We share a concept of development that meets the needs of the neediest, is in harmony with the environment, permits grassroot participation, uses local resources and builds local capacity. We also believe that development could be promoted through the introduction of new, environmentally benign technologies.

Renewable energy technologies

Biomass is the major energy source in rural areas. Over exploitation of this energy source has adverse impact on the environment. Fuel efficient stoves, dryers, kilns, and biogas technologies conserve biomass and create new business opportunities. Small hydro projects provide reliable electricity to remote villages.

Technologies for informal process industries

Innovative technology options provide opportunities for rural value addition of agricultural / horticultural produce. Low - investment income generating activities can lead to improved economic conditions of rural women. Creation of viable and sustainable rural micro enterprises requires an efficient integration of technological, managerial and social skills.

Water and environmental management

Access to adequate water of potable quality for drinking and other uses is imperative for physical, social and economic well being. At the same time inappropriate management of wastes has various direct as well as cumulative impacts on environmental resources, people and livelihoods. TIDE focuses on technological interventions in rain water harvesting, artificial recharge of groundwater, removal of contaminants in drinking water, and various waste management technologies.

Women and livelihoods

There are several social, cultural, financial and technological barriers to micro enterprises development for women's self help groups in rural areas. TIDE has worked on technology adaptation to provide innovative income generating options for women, close to their homes.  Support systems like creation of marketing linkages and technical training are also being developed for sustainable livelihood creation.

Building local entrepreneurships

Mechanisms for complete transfer of knowledge to local small town / village level entrepreneurs is vital for sustainability of enterprises based on renewable energy and water technologies. A period of hand holding and demonstration of commercial viability is also necessary for local enterprises to gain confidence. These commercially viable enterprises would then be the champions for acceptance of technological interventions.

Training

Technical and Managerial skills are very crucial for the development of entrepreneurship and enterprises. These skills can be acquired by training and counselling.
