RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES

The competence of TIDE is largely in the area of biomass combustion and fermentation technologies and power generation from small and pico hydro. TIDE has focused on simple, elegant technologies that can be replicated through local networks. Most of the renewable energy products developed are for thermal energy applications. Power is being generated from small hydro installations.

TIDE concentrates on the development of technologies that are robust, easily replicable at the local level, relatively maintenance free and low cost. The payback period from saving in fuel should be around one year.

OUR AREAS

Technology disseminated and available for dissemination

Energy Efficient Stoves, Dryers and Kilns

Energy efficient stoves have been developed for various informal industry sectors like ayurvedic medicine preparation, rubber band making, areca boiling, textile processing, sericulture etc. All these products save at least 25 -30 % fuel. Versatile biomass fired dryers are available in capacities ranging from 25 kg to 1 ton per batch. Small brick, lime and pottery kilns have also been demonstrated.

PICO HYDRO Power Technology

Project PICO HYDRO was implemented with the objective of demonstrating the technical, managerial and economic feasibility of diffusing Pico Hydro Electric Technology for community use in remote hilly areas of Karnataka and its positive environmental impact.

Energy recovery technology from wastes - Bio Reactors

Reduction in the volume and mass of wastes is a crucial issue especially in the light of limited availability of final disposal sites. Anaerobic digestion of organic wastes can provide  solutions both in energy generation as well as in environmentally sound byproduct recovery and waste treatment. Due to its integrative potential, it could emerge as a key technology contributing to sustainable development.
