ROOM DRYERS
When the quantity of products to b dried in a batch is large the use of
room dryers is recommended. They are called room dryers because large
barns with high roofs are converted into dryers. The operator of the dryer
can walk into the room or enter the drying chamber (in the case of coconut
dryers). The combustion chamber and the ducting assembly are conveniently
laid at the base of the room. Heat is generated by the combustion of
biomass on a grate in the combustion chamber and facilitating the movement
of hot gases through the duct pipes. The material of construction of the
ducting is varied depending on the expected temperature of the flue gas to
get a uniform hot air temperature inside the dryer.
Features
- Large quantities of products can be dried
- Fuel saving potential of about 25 - 30% (as compared to open smoking
of produce)
- Uniform temperature profile resulting in simultaneous drying of produce
- Ducting can be laid in any room of the desired dimensions
- Smoke does not come in contact with the produce thereby ensuring good
quality of dried produce
- Quality of produce better than that obtained by other conventional
drying techniques
