TOBACCO CURING BARNHarvested tobacco leaves are cured in tobacco barns. Tobacco leaves are tied to rods and suspended inside the barn as bunches at different levels. Firewood is burnt in a furnace at the bottom of the barn and the heat generated is led into the barn through the ducting laid at the bottom of the room. Tobacco barns are similar in design to the room dryers. Curing of tobacco is a four stage process that has to be carried out at different temperatures and for a fixed duration. A single tobacco curing batch requires 4-5 days. Tobacco barn performance has been monitored by the Central Tobacco Research Institute. Features
