FOCUS : BUILDING LOCAL ENTREPRENEURS

Project: Documentation of case study on dissemination of improved biomass stoves through entrepreneurial networks

Funded By : Asian Regional Cook stove Program (ARECOP)

Duration: September 2005 - December 2005

This project enabled TIDE to revisit a project site two years after the dissemination project was complete and enabled an assessment of the project interventions at a later date.

The case study focused on areca cooking stoves, one of the stoves most widely disseminated by entrepreneurs. The case study described the socio-economic setting in which the project was implemented, the historical factors that influenced project performance, the project strategy formulation process and the implementation mechanisms.

The various stages of the project have been have been explained and assessed for their relevance. The project impact on all aspects has been described and an economic analysis undertaken in relation to project costs.

The case study has been developed primarily on a process evaluation mode. Brief surveys and focus group discussions have been undertaken with major stakeholders to assess perceptions.

The case study offers results, analysis and learnings for future unsubsidized industrial stove dissemination.
