LITTLE DROPS OF WATER! – Rainwater harvesting

AISIN NTTF, in Electronic city, Bangalore is a software company with Japanese collaboration, that is committed to conservation of natural resources. Rainwater harvesting to collect and reuse the rainwater falling on the rooftop, paved and unpaved areas in the campus of AISIN NTTF was one of first projects implemented by TIDE.

The total rooftop area of AISIN NTTF IS 1280 sq.m. From the annual rainfall data in Bangalore (970mm) TIDE estimated the harvestable rainwater to be 1000 kilolitres. Rain water pipes were laid to carry rainwater from the administrative building and the machine shop buildings to a newly constructed 25,000 litres sump through a combined filter chamber. A 1 hp submersible pump was fixed to lift the water to a 2000-liter overhead tank fixed near the sump. Three recharge pits were also constructed in the premises to enable the percolation of water from paved and unpaved areas. This would help in minimizing the flooding and contribute in recharging the underground aquifers in the region.
