Rain water harvesting at John Fowler Pvt. Ltd.

John Fowler Pvt. Ltd. in Bommasandra Industrial Area, Bangalore, has implemented the rainwater harvesting system in their industrial establishments. The initiative taken by Mr. R.L.Kumar with the support from the Company has been giving excellent benefits to the company's water woes. The RWH system was designed and implemented by TIDE an NGO and RWC, Bangalore, working jointly in conserving the water resource through rainwater harvesting and catchment management techniques in Karnataka State.

The factory complex is having an area of approximately 6 acres consisting of workshop, an administrative block, and a canteen. The daily requirement of water is approximately 7000 litres (annual requirement of 1750kilolitres).The Hydro-geological and Geophysical studies conducted jointly by TIDE and IGCS indicated that the feasible water harvesting structures would be rooftop harvesting and recharge pits. The total quantity of water that can be harvested from the roof area is about 1310 kiloliters per year as against the requirement of 1750 kiloliters per year (assuming 250 days water requirement @ 7000 lt/day) and thereby meeting 75 % of the companies water requirements. The harvested water is self-sufficient for the non-potable water requirements.
