WOMEN CREATE A BETTER LIFE FOR THEMSELVES – Ratnamma’s story

Ratnamma is a resident of kuppinkere in kudligi taluk of Bellary district. She was working as an agricultural laborer. Opportunity came her way when she was introduced to the training Programme for construction of household smokeless stoves conducted by TIDE for women’s groups promoted by DPG (Development Promotion Group) Kudligi!

Ratnamma participated in the training enthusiastically and acquitted great skill in stove construction. DPG helped her to get orders for stove construction and in a short period of 4 months she has constructed over 50 stoves. This has fetched her additional income of Rs. 1500 – 2000. The number of stoves that she is constructing is rapidly increasing. She has demonstrated that women make good stove constructors as they understand user needs better. And also create a better lifestyle themselves and the environment.
